These comics helped my realize that while the trope is fun to poke at, taking it too seriously on the internet is kind of counterproductive. I mean, Wolverine and Kirk can be seen as mary-sue, and yet the are some of the crowd favorites.

You know the first series never needed a sequel, it was fine as is...but man when you make a sequel YOU GO ALL OUT.  THIS...THIS just proves how much more meat you add to the original by making it more interesting and suspenseful, all the while keeping it hilarious beyond all belief!

of course, by their definition Mary Sues are basically every character ever. Hence, Mary Sues are non existent, it's just a fans way of saying "nothing new or original in this fandom's fanworks, ever, especially not characters". This is amusing though. well done, mister Bolk.

Have you READ My Immortal or Forbiden Fuit: The Tempation of Edward(and sometimes Ewdard) Cullen? The Sueness is real, and it is a force to be reckoned with.

I just think that if someone would have found out that they are what they've been fighting against that there would have been more of a denial.  More of a 'what the heck are you saying?!' coming from Jim and then Spock says the second to last panel, and then you get the 'no...wait...no, that's impossible', a 'You know it to be true' or 'search the logic' (instead of 'your feelings') or something like that and then Jim screaming.  *shrug* Seems more believable to me.

Of course Kirk is a Sue... just look at female reactions to him in the old series. He had a new tin foil dressed alien chick every second episode. But we love him nonetheless...

I feel like the definition of "Sue" is becoming very nebulous here.  Wolverine was stretching it already, but I could see the point.  But this is a bit much.  While things work out unnaturally well for Kirk, at the same time, he doesn't have the implausible powers and skills of a Sue.  He's not invulnerable to phasers, he doesn't understand every single subject, etc. etc.  Most importantly, he has a personality, with flaws and motivations.  He's no more a Sue than most heroes are.

Should they have also grabbed Harry when they were in the Potterverse?  Or the Doctor at some point?  (I still don't get why Bella didn't get absorbed.)  Luke Skywalker?  Superman?  I can't help but feel that Kirk is a very fringe-level Sue.

On a more positive note here, I like Uhura's reaction.  A reminder that there are other dynamics at work here, it's not all just Sues, Spocks, and Kirks, and the struggles are not just on a galactic scale.  There are very personal issues of normal people here.

Sorry to say this but Superman IS a Sue, a pretty freaking massive one at that... (ok maybe not) but seriously the main problem DC has is that their multiverse is ruled by what is basically the sue trinity Superman,Batman and Wonder Woman. I would like to point out also that, in my opinion, Harry is not enough of an actual protagonist in his own story to be Sue even if he filled out more of the requirements.

Ok.  But then if they all count as Sue's, why didn't Kirk and co pick them up when they were in their universes?

People have varying idea of what constitutes a sue, and also this a story not a dissertation on the meaning of SUEism in semi modern fiction. Even if the author truly is channeling his precise idea of a sue trough the story there is no reason to accept anything the (sue continuum?) says at face value, it is after all one of sues characteristic that they tend to be a bit hypocritical and self serving.

Perhaps there is a difference between Canon Sues and inserted Sues? This, of course, raises the question of whether Kirk really is a Sue, seeing as Sue!Spock would likely be more than willing to lie to him on that subject. He's being controlled and just wants to win, right?
