To be fair there are a number of times it's not really described what Holmes is wearing exactly so there is room for interpretation there. It's not like Watson (or rather, Doyle through Watson) fastidiously describes Holmes down to his socks every single story. Sometimes it gets a comment, sometimes it doesn't.
And no one seems to comment on the bent pipe instead when Holmes smoked a straight pipe but the bent one was used (again, mostly in the Basil Rathbone stuff) because it was easier for the actor to talk with it in his mouth. If we're going to nitpick things either go all the way and nitpick all the things they got "wrong" (or chose to interpret differently or perhaps consider to be an alternate universe from the one in the stories themselves) or just leave it all be and chalk it up to creative choice.
One thing though - which Doctor are you using this time round, considering he was rejuvenating last time and he's changed TWICE in the actual show since the 10th which was the one you used last time. I'd love to see what you could do with the new guy Peter Capaldy, and I really REALLY don't want to see Baby Doctor Matt Smith.
