Nice. As I was reading through the other pages, I was hoping it would "turn around". Mostly because, there's a sense of building insight under the surface in quite a few of the things you write/draw. (Just found your work today, but happily going to follow now).

I've been trying for a long time to get more people to understand this kind of thing. To listen for the sake of understanding, rather than reacting. Though needless to say, it's not something you can usually change by *telling* people, you have to be the example (or draw comics, apparently ~_^). But really, no matter how different people are from each other, at the end of the day they're all still *people*. Everyone has their own hopes and fears and everyone just wants someone to listen to them sometime. Even if you don't seem to "change" anything, it still makes a difference to someone to know they are heard. As a reassurance they're not alone, and their thoughts and feelings mean something to someone.

Even if you disagree with what they say/think, it's still worth hearing someone out. Not just to have a better argument against them, or to ready yourself to change their point of view, but to really understand where they're coming from. Even if it doesn't change *your* mind, it gives you a better insight of the world, and of them. It allows you to understand how a person thinks who holds a different point of view, and that's incredible if you think about it. To see into a mind that's different from yours. To see the way they feel about their world, the reasons for the path they took, for why they hold the views they do. It's amazing to come away with an understanding of another person, after seeing the world through their eyes a bit.

Personally, I think it makes everything both bigger and smaller. The world seems bigger, since you realize every single person you see or meet has their own views and thoughts and it's all just an amazing and massive scale to imagine all of that. But at the same time, it makes it smaller, in that everyone also seems just a bit "closer". While their views and thoughts are unique, the fact that *everyone's* are, and they all want the validation and acceptance of others, makes it feel like everyone is on the same level. Everyone is still having that human experience, with all it's ups and downs. And it's kind of great, because even if someone is really different from you on the surface, and has really different experiences, you're never so different you can't still listen and relate to that same humanity.

..........

Heh, sorry for such a long post. Guess I had a lot to say. But I kinda went off on a tangent. >_< I do that sometimes.
Anyway, awesome comic, thanks for sharing it with us.

This was a surprising, nice turn!  I'd seen OwlTurd's twitter thread where he revealed a lot of his doubts about making comics, so I felt weird about this comic making fun of his format, but turning it around like this was really nice!

Ahhhh well now I see where you were going with it.
Good job, man.

To quote a certain with-lyrics video:
"Man, this was an unnecessarily elaborate argument"
"You could say that, yes... but then, you could have said a lot, if I'd have just listened."

THIS.  I wish more people understood this.  There is too much condescension and fighting online, it's so sad.  People don't know how to have real empathy anymore.

This turned out to be really awesome.
A lot of people don't seem to realize how fulfilling it can be to just give someone else someone to talk to that is not judgemental and just listens. It's strange with us humans, but sometimes, even if we don't actually get an answer to our problems, just verbally unloading them in earshot of another human who doesn't berate us for doing so can be an amazing feeling of relief. Or it can help us come to our own solutions. That happened with my roommate just a few nights ago.  She'd been batting around an idea in her head for a while, I don't even remember all of the details now, but while I hardly said anything, just let her talk, there was a conclusion she came to only /after/ verbally airing her thoughts on the matter.  She came to it on her own, but it took her hearing it actually said to make the connection.

I agree.

It relates to how things seem to be now and then when people want to talk about things (whether they are right, wrong, or a mixed of either), but are boo'ed, ignored or treated poorly because something controversial or sensitive was mentioned. If some folks had listened each other out to the end, even if something the person speaking said is wrong or isn't true, you begin to see them as a human being.

The point I want to get to though, hopefully with a decent understanding of "segways", is usually people tend to get very violent or appalled by what someone says and mistreat them unfairly, treating as though just mentioning certain things, having a different opinion, is like it some terrible disease or just mentioning aforementioned controversy as part of the conversation is going to make some people want to act violently on the fly.

The things I listen to people say, even if it's crock or some of it is, reminds me that they are human and they share these beliefs, experiences and perspective on things is because the things they talked about are how they make sense on the things they see and do - again, even if it's hateful, just plain mean, and/or misguided. You wouldn't believe in a couple cases where letting someone spin me a wire helps them clear their heads and they actually thought back on why they saw somethings the way that they did, and took the time to correct any mistakes they made and behaviors they acted out on that did some serious harm.

It feels like people compete in a argument to let their problems be first over who their speaking to, their ideals be first, their beliefs... they set their judgement first like they have a last moral ground they have to protect at any given cost. At least, in my opinion.

I know a good portion of people that do these insane things do it either because they are unstable, or they want the control and attention. Maybe more. But for those they just follow along because they aren't sure what to do with themselves or just out on their own...

Communication can be a healing experience and it can help someone let out everything they pented up - again - even if you know something along the line of their beliefs or thinking is wrong.

Wow man. That ending took an unexpected, but rather pleasant and sweet, turn. Being human is hard. Not letting our frustrations, anxieties, emotions, and personalities get in the way of other human interaction is even harder. As long as we make some sort of progress along the way, I suppose that's all that matters. Always learning and growing. I've learned a very similar lesson as your mascot here in these past few years, so this speaks to me. Thanks for sharing. :)
